Duvall Decker was commissioned by the Mississippi Air National Guard 186th Air Operations Group (AOG) at Key Field in Meridian Mississippi to design the New Field Training and Gym Facility. This project involves creating a new 7,300-square-foot centralized building that will serve as a training center for base personnel, facilitating physical fitness training, and preparation for Tier II Battlefield Airmen Physical Fitness Testing (BAPFT). Additionally, the facility will provide space for the 238th Air Support Operations Squadron (238 ASOS), including areas for a full-time Athletic Trainer and Physical Therapist (PT) to conduct indoor personalized training.
The building is designed to be an environmentally mature and energy-efficient structure with low-consuming systems and a low carbon footprint. The structure includes a heavy timber frame with glulam columns and beams supporting cross-laminated timber roof decks. The non-load-bearing insulated building envelope reduces external heat gain and is sheathed with a brick veneer designed to complement the existing base architecture. The design also cultivates natural light, strategically placing clearstories and windows to enhance indoor environmental quality and reduce the need for mechanical and electrical energy.
This project is now under construction.
