Anne Marie Duvall and Roy Decker formed Duvall Decker to foster Public Good in and beyond the lot lines of each project. As an amateur pianist and composer, Anne Marie sees architecture as instrument; allowing the transcendent to resonate among the conditions of our physical environment. As an amateur painter and teacher, Roy sees architecture as didactic; making hopeful critical propositions about the growth of our culture. Together, these perspectives have formed an engaging and critical conversation about why we practice architecture that is alive in the studio and work every day.
Anne Marie is most comfortable putting buildings and documents together with everyone in the studio, finding ways to be efficient and make time for design quality and joy in the work. She also is a recognized leader to the advancement of the profession; teaching, lecturing, writing, serving on design juries, and serving the American Institute of Architects in various capacities at the state and national level.

Throughout his career, Roy has been a teacher, community leader, and practitioner. He regularly gives presentations and lectures on the firm’s design and planning work and is regarded as a multi-disciplinary contributor to advancing issues such as public housing, community planning, and design.

Cody is one of the firm’s most versatile designers and project managers, adept at design, research, systems coordination, construction documentation, and construction administration. Cody brings incredible energy to researching and offering solutions that carry design excellence forward. His commitment to design quality has created many of the firm’s successful projects.

Shannon is a leader in and out of the studio and is a skilled project manager and designer. Shannon has led some of the firm’s most successful projects including the Reserves at Gray Park which was recently recognized in “The State of Housing Design” by the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University, as well as by the 2022 Architizer A+ Award for best affordable housing, and the renovation of Operation Shoestring’s Ellen Harris Center, recipient of a 2023 AIA Mississippi Honor Award. She is a teacher in the studio, helping her peers as they grow and develop. She has an unwavering passion for architecture and its role in making communities healthier.
Shannon was recently awarded the 2023 AIA Young Architects Award for her leadership in design and service to the profession. Shannon’s service to AIA began at the state level where her roles have included Communications Director, Associate Director, member of the Board of Directors, and rank Executive Committee positions, leading to service as the 2018 AIA Mississippi President. Shannon has served as the Regional Associate Director of AIA Gulf States, the 2020 Strategic Council Associate Representative, and the 2021 Associate Director for the AIA National Board of Directors. Shannon currently serves as a S|ARC Advisory Board member for her alma mater Mississippi State University.

Krystal is our business and marketing leader. Having gained experience in many aspects of the building, materials, and construction industries, Krystal provides support to the Duvall Decker family of companies, ensuring overall project coordination and business activities are well executed with a standard of care and attention to detail. Her organizational skills and critical thinking are essential to the firm’s success. Krystal identifies creative solutions to complicated problems, and if she does not already know the information needed for these solutions, she will soon find it.

As our marketing coordinator, Katherine executes marketing and administrative duties, while being adept at tracking and interpreting the results of our efforts. An experienced graphic designer by trade, Katherine is passionate about using her expertise to celebrate community and drive intentional design forward. Her commitment to our business development efforts and understanding of our firm’s philosophy, coupled with her extensive design background, provides a rich perspective essential to the growth of the firm. Having experience in leadership roles within the non-profit sector, Katherine seeks to uplift our identity within the community and explore creative initiatives to shape our voice.

Olivia, a graduate of Mississippi State University, approaches her work with a positive attitude and boundless energy. As a Jackson native, Olivia is committed to its potential for growth. Olivia provides a keen eye to architectural visualization, always ensuring accurate design intent. Her interests lie in human-centered designs, and this coupled with her mission of efficiency, has made her an essential member of the Duvall Decker team.

Daniel Barker is a skilled architectural associate who leads projects in the office and is an inspiration to all who work with him. Daniel is committed to elevating creativity in the community and in the profession. He is a thoughtful and engaged designer who believes the iterative process of design is always better with multiple perspectives. Daniel sees the importance of using our platforms as designers to create better opportunities for all. He is highly community-driven, whether leading many of the firm’s successful collaborative projects or organizing our semi-annual Concrete Studio community events. Daniel is always ready for new challenges and can quickly adapt to ensure that design intentions are advanced throughout the process. His ability to be curious, research, experiment, and find solutions contributes great quality to every project. Daniel was the recent recipient of the 2023 AIA Mississippi Emerging Professional Award and currently serves as the 2024 AIA Mississippi Associate Director.

Madison credits growing up in Columbus, MS and traveling to places like New York and Italy for her lifelong passion for architecture. A Mississippi State University graduate (cum laude), her team took first place honors in the 2018 National Concrete Masonry Association’s Unit Design Competition and the 2019 MSU Brassfield Gorrie Student Design Competition. Madison believes good design is flexible and durable and that architecture has the power to change its context.

Hattie, a graduate of the University of Arkansas’s Fay Jones School of Architecture + Design, values design work that directly benefits members of the community. As a student, she was named the 2022 John G. Williams Joy of Architecture and Design Medal Recipient. She continues to bring this optimism into the work at Duvall Decker. Always at the ready to contribute, Hattie’s organizational skills and motivation to grow imbue her work with a level of care and creativity that supports the firm’s values and goals.

Katie is a creative and compassionate problem-solver who joined the Duvall Decker team after receiving her Master of Architecture from Texas A&M University. Before pursuing her post-graduate degree, Katie spent time in the construction industry receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Science and gaining valuable knowledge in the field. She has a natural intuition to design creatively to promote better environments. Katie’s broad educational background coupled with her approach to care in practice brings a rare level of quality to all projects in the firm.

Chris joins our office after receiving his Master of Architecture at the University of Virginia. A recovering engineer with a heart for the South, Chris brings expanded experience to Duvall Decker, from working as a development manager for a national healthcare real estate firm to strengthening minority communities in Southwest China. His ability to research, experiment, and define durable solutions provides Chris with the skill and maturity to take project designs from conceptual to concrete, all while advancing design quality.
Outside the studio, Chris enjoys woodworking, mountain biking, and slaying imaginary dragons with his three kids.

Mila Lipinski is an empathic and motivated architectural associate originally from Columbus, Indiana. Mila is dedicated to architecture as an act of care for a community. Much of her previous work focuses on listening, investigating, and collaborating with people and communities across diverse platforms and scales. Mila’s passion for people, place, and process brought her to Duvall Decker, where she continues to learn and develop her design, craft, and communication skills.

Joining Duvall Decker with a diverse portfolio, Emily brings extensive experience across various project types, equipping her with the expertise and insight to guide projects through design and construction. Tommy has over a decade of direct government construction quality control and project management experience. He has managed every phase of the design and construction process for both the federal and state governments. Tommy is an ICC Certified Building Inspector, State Licensed Building Inspector, State Fire Marshal Special Local Inspector, and holds designation as Qualified Commissioning Process Provider QCxP. Tommy’s responsibilities at Duvall Decker involve leading construction administration, performing quality control reviews, and coordinating and managing the construction process.

Tim’s mission is building care. He sees his work in facility-care from a designer’s viewpoint; to make a world where the environment is healthy, clean, and energy efficient. He oversees all building facility maintenance for multiple clients, implementing and maintaining the vision, direction, and quality standards of the firm through Dunn Management.
