Merit Award | Cooperwood Senior Living | Flowood, MS

“The jury was impressed with the layout of the structures on the site, the breakdown of scale, and the artful positioning of common spaces within the complex. The exterior spaces both internal to the complex and on approach to the setting, do much to contribute to the residential feeling of a building type that can often feel institutional. The jury felt this architectural solution was carefully considered for the users, their caretakers, and their families.”

“This project demonstrates that renovation of everyday structures for community use can be a significant part of neighborhood revitalization. The jury commended the reuse of the existing building and the expression of the program it houses. The plan makes good use of the structure while giving it a totally new life and appearance. The scale of the project belies how much was accomplished in a tight space with a limited budget. The decades-long program to make this happen is inspiring.”
