Architectural League of New York Invites Duvall Decker to Give Virtual Studio Tour in 2024 Student Program
The Architectural League of New York has invited Duvall Decker to participate in this year’s Student Program, which offers students from around the globe an inside look at the architectural profession. A principal goal of the program is to highlight the varied and creative career paths available to graduates of architecture schools.
This year’s program will take place on Saturday, September 28th in a hybrid format: in-person for NYC area students, and online for students worldwide. The day will kick off with presentations and a panel discussion featuring four individuals who have pursued diverse career paths. The second half of the program will consist of online studio tours.

Meet the team members from our office who will be leading the studio tour!
Shannon Gathings, AIA, NOMA, is a leader in and out of the studio and is a skilled project manager and designer. Shannon has led some of the firm’s most successful projects including the Reserves at Gray Park which was recently recognized in “The State of Housing Design” by the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University, as well as by the 2022 Architizer A+ Award for best affordable housing. She is a teacher in the studio, helping her peers as they grow and develop. She has an unwavering passion for architecture and its role in making communities healthier. Shannon was recently awarded the 2023 AIA Young Architects Award for her leadership in design and service to the profession. Shannon’s service to AIA began at the state level where her roles have included Communications Director, Associate Director, member of the Board of Directors, and rank Executive Committee positions, leading to service as the 2018 AIA Mississippi President.
Daniel Barker is a skilled architectural associate who leads projects in the office and is an inspiration to all who work with him. Daniel is committed to elevating creativity in the community and in the profession. He is a thoughtful and engaged designer who believes the iterative process of design is always better with multiple perspectives. Daniel sees the importance of using our platforms as designers to create better opportunities for all. He is highly community-driven, whether leading many of the firm’s successful collaborative projects or organizing our semi-annual Concrete Studio community events. Daniel is always ready for new challenges and can quickly adapt to ensure that design intentions are advanced throughout the process. His ability to be curious, research, experiment, and find solutions contributes great quality to every project. Daniel was the recent recipient of the 2023 AIA Mississippi Emerging Professional Award and currently serves as the 2024 AIA Mississippi Associate Director.
Katie Bowen is a creative and compassionate problem-solver who joined the Duvall Decker team after receiving her Master of Architecture from Texas A&M University. Before pursuing her post-graduate degree, Katie spent time in the construction industry receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Science and gaining valuable knowledge in the field. She has a natural intuition to design creatively to promote better environments. Katie is leading some of the firm’s most anticipated upcoming projects including the Base Fitness Center at the Mississippi Air National Guard 186th Air Operations Group at Key Field in Meridian, MS, and the Commissioner Dick Hall Hospitality Station in Vicksburg, MS. Katie’s broad educational background coupled with her approach to care in practice brings a rare level of quality to all projects in the firm.
