Jobie L. Martin Classroom Building, Hinds Community College
Client: State of Mississippi, Hinds Community College
Program: Provide an academic building to accommodate campus growth. Include standard classrooms, biology and chemistry laboratories and faculty offices.
Site: Academic/Technical Center Campus of Hinds Community College in Jackson, MS
Project: The design is durable and efficient with a repetitive plan, well proportioned classrooms, and clear service distribution. A complete double shell construction reduces solar gain and the cooling load. The building shape and enclosure utilizes beneficial natural light and limits glare. The public space of the open hall and stairs provides study and gathering spaces outside the classrooms.
Status: Construction complete.
Making useful and engaging architecture is not about, or limited to, the logic of problem solving or service. Engaging form is enigmatic, elusive, open and hard to know fully. Only the architect who makes an enigma of the solution is involved in making art. (Foundation #01)
