Jobie L. Martin Classroom Building, Hinds Community College
Client: State of Mississippi, Hinds Community College
Program: Provide an academic building to accommodate campus growth. Include standard classrooms, biology and chemistry laboratories and faculty offices.
Site: Academic/Technical Center Campus of Hinds Community College in Jackson, MS
Project: The design is durable and efficient with a repetitive plan, well proportioned classrooms, and clear service distribution. A complete double shell construction reduces solar gain and the cooling load. The building shape and enclosure utilizes beneficial natural light and limits glare. The public space of the open hall and stairs provides study and gathering spaces outside the classrooms.
Status: Construction complete.
Chemistry is important. A great project is only achievable if the architect, client and contractor work together with mutual respect and patience. Don’t take the project if the chemistry is not right. It’s not worth it, and it won’t be a great project. (Foundation #21)
